Flag Point, also known as Tiranga Point, is a historical and tourist destination in Port Blair, the capital city of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
It is of great historical significance, as it is the exact spot where Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose hoisted the Indian flag for the first time on Indian soil on December 30, 1943. At the time, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands were under British rule, and Bose’s act was a symbolic gesture of India’s independence.
The current flag pole was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 30, 2018, to mark the 75th anniversary of the first flag hoisting. The flag pole is 150 feet tall, and the Indian flag flutters proudly at its summit.
In addition to its historical significance, it is also a popular tourist destination. Visitors can enjoy stunning views of the surrounding area, including Ross Island, the Cellular Jail, and the sea.
There is also a memorial dedicated to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.
