Bird Watching Tour in Andaman

Our Bird Watching Tour in Andaman brings you closer to something truly special—over 20 bird species found nowhere else on Earth. From dense evergreen forests to coastal mangroves and misty marshes, the Andaman Islands are one of India’s most incredible birding frontiers.

To help you explore this avian paradise, we offer two expertly crafted birding journeys:

  • If you’re short on time but eager to cover all the endemic highlights, the Andaman Endemic Birding Tour (AEBT) is your ideal fit. This 5-night, 6-day tour focuses on South Andaman and aims to help you tick off all 20+ endemic species in a focused, high-impact itinerary.
  • For those looking to go deeper and slower, the Andaman Birding Expedition (ABE) spans 8 nights and 9 days, covering both South and Little Andaman Islands. This tour includes not just the endemics but also rare island birds like the Ruddy Kingfisher, Beach Thick-knee, and Nicobar Pigeon—species that are hard to find without venturing into the more remote parts of the archipelago.

Both tours are designed and led by our local birding experts, and whether you’re a seasoned birder or simply someone who loves the natural world, these experiences promise rare sightings, breathtaking scenery, and the joy of spotting birds in their wild island homes.

In this blog, we’ll take you through everything you need to know—from species highlights and travel tips to tour options, pricing, and what makes birding in the Andamans so unforgettable. Let’s begin your journey into the heart of the islands.

Deep Dive: What Happens on the Bird Watching Tour in Andaman?

Let’s imagine going on a special nature trip where the forests are filled with colorful birds, the air smells like rain and trees, and every day is a new adventure! Here’s how the tours are planned, step by step, so you know exactly what’s in store.

1. Andaman Endemic Birding Tour (AEBT – 5 Nights / 6 Days)

This is a six-day birding adventure in South Andaman. It’s made for people who want to see all the special birds that live only on these islands. Every day is carefully planned to explore a different forest, wetland, or beach!

Day 1: Arrival & First Forest Visit – Chidiya Tapu

Once everyone arrives on the island, the group goes to a beautiful forest called Chidiya Tapu, which means “Bird Island.” The place is peaceful and full of birds that only live in the Andamans—like the Andaman Drongo or Andaman Shama. As the sun goes down, the real excitement begins! The group stays quietly near the trees to look for night birds like owls and nightjars, which only come out when it’s dark.

Day 2: Forest in the Morning, Wetland in the Afternoon

In the morning, everyone explores Kalatang Forest, a green place full of fruit trees and secret bird trails. This is the best chance to see the Andaman Crake, a rare bird that hides near the forest floor, and the tiny Andaman Flowerpecker. Later in the day, the group visits Sippighat Wetland, a watery place where ducks like the Andaman Teal swim. There are also tall birds with long legs walking slowly in the mud, called waders.

Day 3: Deep Forest Trails + Night Birding Again

This day is all about walking through tall forests. The group will visit either Ferrergunj Reserve or Mount Manipur National Park, both amazing for spotting forest birds like the Andaman Woodpecker, Serpent Eagle, and Treepie. At night, it’s back to RN Point for another quiet search for owls, nightjars, and other nighttime birds.

Day 4: Shorebirds & Coastal Trails

Now it’s time to visit the shore! The morning begins with a walk along the RN Point trail, a beautiful forest path that leads to open beaches and mangrove-covered coasts.
Later, everyone heads to Lotus Point and Butler Bay, places where birds like Beach Thick-knees, sandpipers, and terns live and nest. These birds love being near water and sand!

Day 5: Waterfalls, Rivers, and Forest Birds

Today’s adventure is a mix of hiking and exploring near water. The group visits White-surf Waterfall and Ongi Tikrey, which are great spots for birds that live near rivers—especially different types of colorful kingfishers. This is a great day to see birds in action—fishing, flying, or calling from high branches.

Day 6: Last Birding Stop – Wetlands & Goodbye

On the final day, the group visits Garacharma and Ograbraj Wetlands—quiet, wide-open places full of water, reeds, and muddy flats. This is the best place to see pipits, warblers, and jacanas as they hop and glide through the water. Then it’s time to return to base and head to the airport with happy memories and (hopefully) lots of bird sightings!

What’s Included in the Tour:

  • Pick-up and drop at the airport
  • Clean and comfy shared hotel rooms
  • All meals—breakfast, lunch, and dinner
  • Entry passes to all forest and birding spots
  • All travel in a private vehicle
  • A friendly birding expert who guides the trip
  • Water bottles and ferry tickets (if needed)

What’s Not Included:

  • Personal snacks, drinks, or souvenirs

2. Andaman Birding Expedition (ABE – 8 Nights / 9 Days)

This longer tour is for people who want to explore even more habitats, including the quiet and remote Little Andaman Island. It includes everything from the shorter AEBT tour, plus extra birding time and travel to exciting new places!

Days 1–2: Same as AEBT

The first two days are just like the AEBT tour—visiting Chidiya Tapu, Kalatang Forest, and Sippighat Wetland, with both day and night birding sessions.

Day 3: Ferry to Little Andaman – Ocean Birds & Night Owls

The group travels by ferry boat to Little Andaman, which takes several hours. During the ride, there’s a chance to see seabirds flying alongside the boat! After reaching, the group heads to Hut Bay Beach and RK Pur, where both coastal and forest birds can be seen—including night owls if you’re lucky!

Day 4: Forest Giants & Rare Birds

Now it’s time to explore Harminder Bay Forest, a very rich habitat. This is one of the few places where you might spot the mysterious Nicobar Pigeon or the majestic Andaman Serpent Eagle gliding high above the trees.

Days 5–6: Forest, Waterfalls & Beach Birding

The group spends the next two days visiting favorite spots like RN Point, Lotus Point, Butler Bay, and White-surf Waterfall, covering a mix of forest and shoreline habitats.
It’s the perfect chance to revisit key species or discover new ones.

Day 7: Wetland Wonders

Back on South Andaman, the tour continues with a visit to Garacharma & Ograbraj Wetlands, known for hosting smaller birds like warblers, rails, ducks, and crakes—some hiding quietly in reeds!

Day 8: One Last Forest Walk

The group makes one final forest visit—either Ferrergunj or Mount Manipur National Park—to catch any birds missed earlier. After a rest, there’s an evening stop at the Sippighat Wetlands for one final birding session.

Day 9: Farewell

After breakfast, it’s time to pack up and head to the airport. If someone’s flight is in the afternoon, there’s a chance to add one last half-day birding session before saying goodbye.
