How to Reach the Limestone Cave?

You can reach Baratang by road. There used to be direct ferries operating from Port Blair to Baratang, but as of now, the only way you can reach Baratang is by road.

By Road:

You can easily reach Baratang to see the limestone cave by yourself. Just follow the guide below:

  • From Port Blair: Begin your journey from Port Blair, the capital of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. It is best to begin your journey early in the morning
  • Drive to Baratang : Take a private car or a private AC bus to Baratang, which is approximately 100 kilometers away. If you’re on a budget, you can opt for a government bus from Port Blair.
    • If you have booked a tour package from a travel agent then he will provide you with a chauffer driven cab.
    • To book a government bus you will have to visit the STS Main Bus Stand.
  • Andaman Trunk Road (ATR): The route to Baratang follows the Andaman Trunk Road (ATR). It’s a scenic drive with lush green landscapes and stunning views of the azure waters.
    • To cross the ATR road you will have to take a convoy from the checkpost. The convoy starts at 4:00 am in the morning and costs INR 100 onwards depending on the vehicle.

  • Short Vehicle-Ferry Connection: Near Baratang , you’ll encounter a short vehicle-ferry connection. This part of the journey is an unforgettable experience, offering glimpses of the island’s natural beauty.

  • After you reach the Nilambur Jetty, you will have to hire a boat to the Limestone Cave.
  • Note: Keep in mind that two-wheelers are not allowed for the entire journey to the island.

Limestone Cave entry fee:

There is no entry fee. You will just have to bear the boat costs. The boat from Nilambur Jetty to Limestone Cave will cost between 800-1000 per boat.

Mangrove Creek Boat Ride:

The boat ride through the mangroves on the way to the Limestone Cave is an enchanting experience.

The boats are not covered and there might be direct sunlight. It gets hot especially during noon. You should be prepared with an umbrella or some sunscreen.

After you get down the boat, you will be on a trek towards the Limestone cave. First you will traverse through the mangroves on a wooden path. Then you will find solid land.

Note: Above facilities are not available at the Limestone Cave.
